I just got my license and want to get a starter bike to decide if I want to pursue riding more. I'm looking for a 250, maybe a Honda Rebel.

good, a starter bike is the best way to learn, dont go jumping on much over 800cc if conventional, unless a Harley, as for sport bikes, thats a different world altogether. stay under 600cc, & even then they get dangerous especially in inexperienced hands.

thought I would mention Honda also made the Rebel as a 450.

also mid sized 70's & 80's bikes can be good for a beginner. I saw an old Honda 350 or 360 recently on craigslist, they are excellent bikes, but old school. the difference is the 350 is actually 325cc, & a 5 speed, the 360 is 356cc & a 6 speed, then the other is what models, like high pipes, taller bars, or seats in a nut shell. & keep cam chain adjusted, that is the downfall in my opinion of this one. if kept adjusted great little bikes, if not, well chain breakage, & cam breakage, lots of my friends rode them growing up, & 1 rode one to California & back.

the rebel, is very good bike, reliable. it however on the interstate will be lacking.

I have seen a few 450 Rebels for sale in last few months, they will a little extra oomph on the mountains, & still have the folowing that the Rebels do.

you may want to try a few different bikes on for size, as every bike sits different, & some will hurt your back, while others will hurt your butt, some will have uncomfortable bars.

May I ask why your selling with only 60 miles? did you drop it? did you not like riding? or did you drop it? or want more power?

a 2011 is this years model, & 60 miles? I put that many on my bike almost everyday I ride to work, so it really hasnt hardly been ridden.

Thank you,

Randy

Hey, I started riding again after almost 30 yrs. and I bought a 650 Suzuki (thumper) and within 3 months I was in the market for a bigger bike. I then bought a almost new (465) miles Suzuki VL 800 Volusia ,same as Boulevard but before name change, and I put about 18,000 miles on it in 3 yrs. Then a couple weeks ago I ran across a good deal on a Harley Road King so I moved up again. Now I have a really nice 800 Suzuki for sale if you are interested, and I will say that it is just as easy to ride as a smaller bike if not easier, and you won't outgrow it as quick, but then again I'm trying to sell a bike , right!! Good luck in your decision and if interested let me know ,I can give you the details! Thanks.

say what you want but start out out with a bigger bike .A 250 is nice but like everybody says you will out grow it quick .My choice to start with would be a soft tail harley good all around machine ,low, fairly light and good resale ,and all the power you need and a good ride

I actually would recomend a first bike as something like an old Honda 350 or 360, or even a Rebel 450, I am not a fan of the 250 Rebel for lack of power. or something like a Suzuki savage.

a Harley is nice, but all new riders end up dropping at least once, & I recomnd getting something cheap, as well as something that is cheap to fix. there isnt anything about Harley thats cheap!

And we do not want you to get discouraged with riding if you do drop one that is expensive. Pick it back up, bend it back or replace, get back on and ride!!! Something like my bike can be had real cheap if you look in the right places and at the right times, and they are reliable. And it rides easy, although I do not like the seat but that is me. When I took my test, the instructor was scared for me she said she never saw anyone take the slalom so fast before, I said why dump the bike, this thing will just go right thru those cones no problem, just tell it where to go. So I am a fan of a smaller bike too but not too small.

I went through the salom fast also, but I did it on a motorscooter when I was 16, a 125cc Honda Elite with the flip up headlight. it would go where you flick it, but if anything came by you it would blow you around on the road. VERY DANGEROUS.

those scooters are ok for around town, but on the hi-way, I have been blown 1 1/2 lanes off the road, yes seriously. thats why I got rid of it. I couldnt even ride 220 to Roanoke, I was blown off the road into grass a few times, & even doubling was blown off, I dididnt need that, nor to risk being blown into another vehicle or maybe a tree of telephone pole.

thats one of the few vehicles you could not pay me to ride on a major road ever for any amount of money. maybe a larger scooter? but not something thats so light I could pick the whole bike up by myself, I think it weighed under 170lbs.

Thanks, & I am totally serious, was extremely lucky not to wreck, or go down. top speed was just shy of 70mph. & took forever to get there.
